Over the past few years, pianist Steve Sedergreen has completed a master's degree, a book based on his teaching methodology and an intense period of personal and musical development (including time spent in Canada and Australia working with indigenous musicians). But he has also remained committed to his creative partnership with brother Malcolm Sadergreen - and, in particular, the ensemble they have co-led for the past two decades. Mistaken Identity began life when the brothers were still in their teens, and has remained a musical constant throughout their professional careers.
Spontaneity, passion and a spirit of inclusiveness have long been hallmarks of the band, which maintains a loyal following as its members continue to expand their mainly original repertoire, augmented by jazz standards and the occasional pop song. The band's current line-up features Steve and Malcolm (on piano and saxophones respectively), the hard-swinging bassist Nick Haywood and veteran drummer Ted Vining.
